Itenary
Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
- Elevation: 2360m to 2895m
- Distance: 6 km
- Time: 3-4 hours
- Habitat: Montane forest
Commence your adventure with a scenic drive to Londorossi Gate, where registration takes place. Trek through enchanting montane forests to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2895m) for your first night under the stars.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp
- Elevation: 2895m to 3500m
- Distance: 8 km
- Time: 5-6 hours
- Habitat: Moorland
Continue your journey, passing through Shira Plateau and the impressive Shira Cathedral. Trek across moorland meadows to reach Shira 1 Camp (3500m) for overnight camping.
Day 3: Shira 1 to Moir Hut
- Elevation: 3500m to 4200m
- Distance: 14 km
- Time: 5-7 hours
- Habitat: Moorland
Ascend through rugged moorland terrain, enjoying panoramic views along the way. Pass by the renowned Shira Cave and Arrow Glacier before reaching Moir Hut (4200m) for a peaceful night’s rest.
Day 4: Moir Hut to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
- Elevation: 4200m to 4600m to 3950m
- Distance: 12 km
- Time: 6-7 hours
- Habitat: Semi-desert
Trek to Lava Tower (4600m) for lunch and acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp (3950m). Marvel at the Western Breach and Breach Wall as you descend, with stunning sunset views at Barranco Camp.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
- Elevation: 3950m to 4600m
- Distance: 9 km
- Time: 6-7 hours
- Habitat: Alpine desert
Embark on a thrilling scramble up the Great Barranco Wall, followed by a trek to Karanga Valley and onward to Barafu Camp (4600m). Enjoy majestic glacier views and prepare for summit day.
Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Hut
- Elevation: 4600m to 5895m (and down to 3100m)
- Distance: 7km ascent / 23km descent
- Time: 6-8 hours ascent / 7-8 hours descent
- Habitat: Stone screed and ice-capped summit / Forest
Begin your summit bid in the early hours, reaching Stella Point (5732m) for a spectacular sunrise. Continue to Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa. Descend to Mweka Hut (3100m) for a well-deserved rest.
Day 7: Mweka Hut to Mweka Gate
- Elevation: 3100m to 1800m
- Distance: 10 km
- Time: 3-4 hours
- Habitat: Forest
Descend through lush forests to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates. Transfer back to your hotel for a celebration of your remarkable achievement.
